"Work has commenced on repair work to core path 515 west of Glencrieff Mine. This work involves two areas of large soil erosion and two areas of drainage problems".

Wanlock Visions would like to thank Dumfries and Galloway Council Ranger Services for their agreement to carry out the proposed work, making this section safer and assisting us in a forthcoming project in this area, the Visions of the Past - Heritage Trail.

Work on the core path 515 has begun with repair to the affected area regarding subsidence being addressed.

Visions of the Past - Heritage Trail

Wanlock Visions has had for some time permission, from Buccleuch Estates, to construct a new walkway within and around the Village of Wanlockhead. The walkway will be named the Visions of the Past - Heritage Trail and will include numerous information boards located along the route.

The boards will provide information on many aspects of the local heritage.

The walkway will be a circular route with starting and finishing points opposite the Museum car park and using parts of the Southern Upland Way, existing and newly constructed paths and old tramways, reaching as far as the crushing plant at Meadowfoot before heading back to the start.

While negotiations are still ongoing with the landowner of enhancing the walkway by way of incorporating various existing remnant buildings, Wanlock Visions will be moving forward with stage one of the project.

Stage one consists of sourcing and securing funding, which has been partially achieved, purchasing and installation of the information boards along the route, also, working alongside Dumfries and Galloway Council on various safety issues within the existing pathways. Other work will include constructing a new section to the footpath and two new footbridges.

Stage two is dependent on ongoing negotiations regarding various buildings and any renewable energy possibilities.

Feasibility studies will be required for any renewable energy possibilities.

It is our intention to communicate with local residents on all aspects of the work and to update where necessary. If you have any enquiries or wish to learn more please contact us via the contact page.
